The prostate is a sexual organ under the influence of the male sex hormones. It is believed that from 40 years old, this small organ, which has the size of a walnut, begins to swell, leading to prostate enlargement or inflammation. Prostate inflammation, or prostatitis, is sometimes caused by infection. An enlarged prostate, also called benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), is caused mainly by the accelerated transformation of natural testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT), another form of testosterone. An increase in DHT causes an increased volume of the prostate. Technically, the conversion from testosterone into DHT is triggered by an enzyme known as the 5-alpha-reductase enzyme. When the prostate is swollen, it presses on the urethra, thereby reducing the urinary flow.
Do you have frequent and sudden urges to urinate? Do you ever get up at night to go to the bathroom several times? Do you sometimes feel like you can't empty your bladder completely? Do you have difficulty starting to urinate? Do you ever experience a weak and or a discontinuous urine flow? These are some of the symptoms that may indicate a prostate dysfunction.
Zinc. As Dr. Donald Lepore points out in his book “The Ultimate Healing System”, a prostate problem usually develops because of a Zinc deficiency and “when the gland is ‘hungry’ for Zinc, it will often swell in size causing a choking effect on the urinary passage way”.
In fact, studies confirm that Zinc levels decrease in patients with prostate problems. Hence the importance of supplementing with Zinc. Maybe this is why Zinc is commonly known as the “virility mineral”. However, do not overdose on Zinc because it may cause nausea, especially on an empty stomach. It is advised to determine first the right amount of Zinc you need by a qualified physician or an expert kinesiologist. Usually, if you take a Zinc supplement, do not exceed 100mg daily (divided in small doses) and take it when you have food in your stomach.
Natural food sources of Zinc include Brazil nuts, cashews, peanuts, tuna fish, calves liver, lean beef, beef liver, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds.
Saw Palmetto, a.k.a. Sabal (Serenoa Repens or Sabal Serrulata). This is probably the most popular herbal remedy nowadays for prostate problems. It can shrink the common enlargement of the prostate. It helps men with BPH, promotes urinary comfort and is also able to inhibit the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase. It significantly improves the urine flow.
African plum tree (Pygeum Africanum) has also been found to block the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase in the prostate. It reduces the size of the prostate by slowing the growth of its cells. Therefore the urethra has more space and the urine leaves more easily from the bladder.
Nettle extract also reduces the prostate volume, soothes its inflammation and helps with urinary symptoms associated with BPH. It is worth pointing out that Nettle leaves contain Lignanos (vegetable compounds that slow down the conversion of testosterone into DHT) and quercetin (a flavonoid that relieves the inflammatory symptoms of the prostate).
Maca. While you may have heard of Maca because of its aphrodisiac properties, it is also a plant that benefits the prostate, given the fact that it contains glucosinolates. Glucosinolates help to protect the prostate and some studies show that the consumption of red maca could in fact induce a decrease in the prostate size.
Aminoacids. In the aminoacid world, Glutamic acid, Glycine and Alanine are considered helpful for prostate problems.
Other supplements. Evening primerose and Linseed oil also have some properties that may help with prostate problems.
Homeopathic remedies. Thuja and Staphys. are two homeopathic remedies that are helpful, among other things, for prostate problems.
Chinese traditional medicine (CTM). Qian Lie Xian and Jie Jie Wan are two known remedies used by CTM for prostate ailments.
When it comes to helpful dietary advice for your prostate, there are three basic recommendations: 1) Avoid alcohol, especially beer; 2) Avoid soy; and 3) Avoid dairy.
All alcohol (and beer especially) contains some form of yeast, which decreases the effectiveness of zinc in your body. Soy contains estrogens, which decrease testosterone levels (and by the way, most soy products are GMO nowadays). Dairy products are not a good idea when you have an inflammatory condition, because they diminish the levels of potassium in your body.
As to beneficial foods for your prostate, some studies have found that lycopene, an antioxidant and pigment component naturally found in tomatoes, may help inhibit a prostatic enlargement. While Tomatoes are considered the best source of lycopene, other fruits and vegetables like watermelon, pink grapefruit, papaya, guava, apricots and carrots do contain some lower levels of it. Normally, the deeper red the fruit or vegetable color is, the higher its lycopene content is. Berries (strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, etc.) are normally suggested as helpful for prostate health because of their vitamin C and antioxidant properties.
Some nutritional experts also recommend fatty fish (salmon, fresh water trout, herring, anchovies, tuna and sardines), because of their high Omega-3 content, and healthy fats like those found in nuts (Brazil nuts, cashews, pecans, almonds, walnuts, etc.) as healthy foods for your prostate. Finally, other experts also recommend beans, chia and hemp as good sources of plant protein.
Sound healing is also available as a holistic treatment for prostate ailments. This works by listening to the appropriate sound frequencies that you may need to improve your condition. Electronic sound healing follows the principle of vibration, according to which everything (including any part of your body) has a specific vibration and frequency that can be measured in hertz. When the appropriate frequencies are applied to the body or are simply listened to by the patient as needed, the body reacts sympathetically pursuant to the principle of resonance, thereby facilitating the healing process.
In this case, I have put together for you the sound frequencies of Testosterone and Zinc in mp3 format, so you can easily download both frequencies and listen to them with headphones or earbuds.

Finally, let's have a look at the emotional cause of prostate problems, from a metaphysical, holistic perspective.
When dealing with problems, it is helpful to take a holistic approach that also encompasses the emotional causes of such problems. As Louise Hay points out in her book “You Can Heal Your Life”, “men’s prostate problems have a lot to do with self-esteem and also believing that as he gets older he becomes less of a man”. The prostate represents the masculine principle and mental fears weaken masculinity. There might be some sexual pressure, guilt, and belief in aging.
So basically, we can say that the emotional cause behind prostate problems is giving in to your belief in aging. In this regard, it is useful to recall the beautiful words written by Samuel Ullman, taken from his famous poem, "Youth":
"Youth is not a time of life; it is a state of mind... it is a matter of the will, a quality of the imagination, a vigor of the emotions; it is the freshness of the deep springs of life.
Youth means a temperamental predominance of courage over timidity of the appetite, for adventure over the love of ease... Nobody grows old merely by a number of years. We grow old by deserting our ideals...
To give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry, fear, self-distrust bows the heart and turns the spirits back to dust...
There is in every human being’s heart the lure of wonder, the unfailing childlike appetite of what’s next and the joy of the game of living. In the center of your heart and my heart there is a wireless station: so long as it receives messages of beauty, hope, cheer, courage and power from men and from the Infinite, so long are you young".
I hope this helps.
