Tinnitus is a condition characterized by a continuous buzzing or ringing in the ears. In this article, I will point out some natural, Ayurvedic recipes as well as some homeopathic remedies that might be helpful to alleviate your tinnitus.
I will also share some important information regarding food intolerances that could be responsible for this physical condition. I will explain the basics of the fifth chakra and give you some hints as to the possible emotional cause of tinnitus and ear problems, in order to enable you to address this problem from a holistic perspective. Finally, I will give you some music therapy advice on this matter.
Ayurvedic remedies and recipes.
One simple Ayurvedic cure for earache in general is to put three drops of garlic oil into the ear. This is not some kind of commercial garlic oil that you buy in the supermarket for cooking purposes. This garlic oil is to be prepared naturally by crushing two cloves of garlic and adding them to one tablespoonful of sesame oil (or pure olive oil). Boil the mixture. After a while, you may apply the warm oil into the ear, with a clean dropper.
In Ayurveda, a general recommendation for tinnitus is to place two drops of pure almond oil in each ear, with a clean dropper, once a week. Dr.Vasant Lad advises more specifically to put three drops of clove oil into the ear. The clove oil recipe is similar to the garlic oil recipe: just boil five whole cloves in one tablespoonful of sesame oil and leave the cloves in the oil. After a while, the warm oil can be applied, with a clean dropper.
Homeopathic remedies
Homeopathy also provides specific remedies that -taken three times daily for up to two weeks- can help to alleviate the symptoms of tinnitus. Dr. Andrew Lockie specifically recommends the following remedies:
*Kali Iod. 6c for longstanding ringing in the ears, with no additional symptoms.
*China Sulph. 6c for singing, buzzing, or hissing in ears.
*Carbon Sulph. 6c for tingling, roaring, blocked feelings in ears.
*Salicylic ac. 6c for roaring in ears, accompanied by giddiness.
Food intolerances
Food intolerances and allergies cause diverse symptoms. Tinnitus might be one of them. Having a good food sensitivity test is wise to clearly determine the offenders to your personal metabolism.
Dr. Donald Lepore, a pioneer in nutritional healing, discovered that tinnitus in the left ear is usually caused by an intolerance to rice or some specific ingredients in the same nutritional group (which includes cinnamon, blueberries, grapes, strawberry, watermelon, wine, or pumpkin). He also discovered that this intolerance can be corrected with the mineral Manganese, vitamin B-6 and the amino acid Arginine. The herb Yucca is also good for these purposes, since it is an excellent source of Manganese.
By contrast, Dr. Lepore’s research demonstrated that tinnitus in the right ear is usually caused by an intolerance to wheat. This includes of course wheat bread (or any bread or pancake that has wheat in it), pasta, and the wheat flour that is used for cooking. So people who experience tinnitus in the right ear would be wise to refrain from eating wheat products for a while, while they correct this intolerance with vitamin F (which can be found in olive oil, safflower oil, sunflower oil), the mineral Magnesium and the amino acid Histidine.
Sometimes these food intolerances are triggered by an external factor. For instance, extended sunburn at the beach can decrease the vitamin F in the body, which at that point becomes intolerant to wheat products. So in those cases it is wise to put some olive oil (or safflower, peanut or almond oil) on your skin, after you get sunburn. This is why, pursuant to Dr. Lepore’s research, the so called “swimmer’s ear” is not an infection from the water, but a wheat allergy caused by sunburn.
The fifth chakra
So far, we have addressed tinnitus and ear problems from the physical or nutritional healing point of view only. Let us now examine the bigger, holistic picture, for those cases that are rooted on emotional patterns.
From a holistic point of view, ear problems can be malfunctions associated with your fifth chakra. Disorders of the throat, voice and neck are other possible malfunctions of this chakra, as is tightness of the jaw.
The fifth chakra is the chakra that governs communication. It is related to your ability to express your deepest feelings with honesty and clarity, to yourself and others. It is also related to your ability to hear and speak the truth. It is also the chakra that allows creativity to flow in and through you.
Healing this chakra entails working with your inner child, the little voice inside yourself that asks you to pay some attention to your emotions. This is important because psychological studies have demonstrated that all negative emotional states hide an unfulfilled need of our inner child.
The possible emotional cause of ear problems
From a metaphysical standpoint, ear problems –in general- mean that there is something happening that you do not want to listen to. If there is pain, it is an indication that there is some anger involved. Thus, there might be an angry refusal to hear something (as in the typical case of children not willing to hear their parents’ arguing).
If this happens to be the case, work on dissolving your anger around that particular thing that you dislike listening to. Work on changing your perception about it. Focus instead on listening with love to something you like; to something harmonious, good and pleasurable.
Music therapy
Music is a powerful healing tool when it is used scientifically, as I have explained in my article about the healing power of music.
Harpsichord music is generally recommended as sound therapy for ear problems. Some music therapists -like Ted Andrews- also recommend symphonies, big band music and reggae as beneficial forms of music for the nervous system and sense organs of the body.
If you wish to address the possible underlying fifth chakra issues as explained above in this article, and the need to listen to your inner voice and pay attention to your inner child, consider listening to my whole music album Expression. You may also enjoy my healing song Communication (from my album "Peace").
Music played in the keys of G and G sharp, like my healing song Delight (from my album "Peace") is also usually recommended. A session with a skilled music therapist can go even deeper, in order to determine your own personal music scale and provide you with the sounds and frequencies that resonate with your personal fifth chakra and your personal issues more closely.
